“To Dye For” Fine Art Series

When I began this project, it did not go how I originally intended. At all. I began by using a simple glass pan, pouring about a cup of oil in it, dropping different colors of food dye in it, and then mixing it. I found that this only formed millions of tiny oil bubbles and not this whispey color concept I was going for.

Eventually, I ended up using a vase to capture the color dripping down. I used an on-camera flash, with white reflectors, and a LOT of patience. These were the three I loved the most, but they were not easy to capture. Focusing on the forefront point was key, and time was of the essence. This entire process took me about an hour.
